The Hon. Brad Hazzard and The Lord Mayor of Sydney officially opens the affordable housing development from City West Housing
Media release: Monday 14 March 2016
Brad Hazzard MP, Minister for Family and Community Services and Minister for Social Housing and the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, officially opened the latest development by City West Housing, The Exordium Apartments at Zetland on Friday 11 March.
The Exordium Apartments at Zetland is a new $41m development comprising 104 contemporary apartments that have been specially designed to provide significantly needed affordable, high quality housing solutions to key workers within the City of Sydney.
Janelle Goulding, CEO of City West Housing commented: “The vision for the development was to create a high quality and sophisticated contemporary building which sits comfortably and respectfully in its surroundings. The Exordium Apartments provides a mix of residential dwellings to help support the ever increasing demand for affordable rental accommodation in Sydney”.
The Exordium development will offer a mix of one, two and three bedroom units, catering for all the primary needs of key workers in Sydney, with approximately 15% of the accommodation being adaptable for elderly or disabled tenants.
The Exordium will play an integral role in addressing the Sydney housing affordability crisis and will provide residents with excellent connectivity to the major commercial and retail centres of the Green Square Town Centre. The Exordium Apartments will also be well serviced by the surrounding public transport network, including bus and railway services, which is a key consideration for essential working roles within the inner city.
The Hon. Brad Hazzard MP, Minister for Family and Community Services and Minister for Social Housing, commented: “City West Housing was created to ensure that workers who keep the wheels moving in the city can afford to live close to the city. The Exordium is a direct beneficiary of Sydney’s construction boom, as it’s been completely funded by developer contributions levied on Green Square”.
The site is located at the southern end of the old South Sydney Hospital Site, on the corner of Hansard and Portman Streets, Zetland. Currently undergoing urban renewal, this development presented City West Housing with the opportunity to continue to deliver high quality residential accommodation to key workers within the Sydney City area that require affordable, reliable and convenient living arrangements.
The development would not be possible without the partnership of the City of Sydney Council and their commitment to providing affordable housing.
Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, commented: “Nurses, teachers, police officers, cleaners and bus drivers – the people who help make our city run – have to be able to afford to live here. Developments like this help address that need, which is why I’m pleased to work with City West on the Exordium Apartments in Portman Street, Zetland.
“We need new models for large-scale affordable rental housing to ensure the kind of diverse housing supply that’s fundamental to the future growth of Sydney. Moving into this area, the residents will have easy access to shops and public transport, parks, a pool and library and the wonderful community and creative facilities that City of Sydney are building on the former South Sydney Hospital site.”
The new development will feature communal gardens and BBQ areas, a small cafe, a single level basement with parking for 40 cars and ample bicycle storage; all to cater to the requirements of inner city living.
