ABC NEWS: Calls to put money into low cost housing rather than retirement savings
In the wake of the latest Gratton Institue report, ABC Newsreached out to CWH for a special feature discussing superannuation and housing affordability. The Gratton Institute report acknowledged the retirement incomes system is not working for some low-income Australians who rent, particularly in Sydney and Melbourne. As reported by ABC low-income earners, particularly woman renting are most vulnerable to poverty in retirement. With 80% of older single woman renting this issue is widespread.
The ABC segment featured one of our residents Jade who previously fell into this vulnerable category before accessing affordable housing. Our CEO Leonie King is also interviewed, calling for more diverse investment in Affordable housing from institutions such as superannuation and ethical investment funds.
