City West Housing holds a Pink Ribbon Breakfast in Support of Breast Cancer Network Australia
On October 18th City West Housing staff came together to support Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) by holding a Pink Ribbon Breakfast. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, with 1 in 8 women being diagnosed before they turn 85.
This ‘Pinktober’ is especially poignant for CWH as one of our own, René was diagnosed in February of this year. René had no family history of breast cancer and no noticeable symptoms.
Did you know this year, more than 18,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia making breast cancer the most common cancer in Australia?
18,235 = 148 males + 18,087 females
That’s almost 50 women every day! While the survival rate has increased there is still much to do…
“I am so lucky, it was just pure chance that my breast cancer was caught. If small things had gone differently, it might not have been found until it was too late. I was one of those people who thought it couldn’t be me, I was wrong.”
As a community, it’s important to rally around each other in support of those whose lives have been touched by cancer. Through raising awareness and funds we can all play our part.
Following surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy René is now cancer free and on the mend!

Together CWH staff donated $422.60 to help BCNA continue their vital work in providing resources, programs and services to Australians affected by breast cancer.
