At Friday night’s Property Council of Australia’s (PCA) 2022 National Innovation & Excellence Awards, City West Housing’s Ironbark Apartments in Forest Lodge, Sydney was hailed as an outstanding example of affordable housing design and development, focusing on the residents’ wellbeing and reducing ongoing running costs.
Taking out the National Innovation & Excellence award for Best Affordable Housing Development, City West Housing and the project’s consultant team designed Ironbark’s 75 units to be fit-for-purpose affordable housing for very low to moderate income earners. While excelling in the areas of architecture and sustainable design, the emphasis is on long-term liveability and operations, with the real winners being the residents who have high-quality, secure housing at an affordable rent.
Ironbark Apartments was also a finalist for the 2022 PCA Best Residential Development Award.
“Our approach is different to the standard urban development project”, said City West Housing’s Chief Executive Officer, Leonie King.
“As we own and manage the building in perpetuity, we have to think about the long-term viability of the development while providing highly liveable homes that meet the overall health, wellbeing, lifestyle and financial goals of our tenants, many of whom are vulnerable”, said Leonie.
Congratulations to the City West Housing team directly responsible for this project, including Head of Development, Lisa Sorrentino and Development Manager, Priscilla Tran. Thanks also to the project’s consultant team for their expertise and to the City of Sydney who provided subsidised land and financial support to bring this outstanding development to life.
