Video: Reducing our carbon footprint with solar

World Environment Day (5 June) serves as the largest global platform for environmental outreach.

City West Housing is committed to implementing long-term environmental sustainability initiatives to our properties to reduce our carbon footprint. One of our recent key areas of focus is reducing the environmental impact from energy usage.

With funding from the NSW government, City West Housing installed 769 solar rooftop panels on three of our buildings, significantly reducing the energy costs and carbon footprint of 225 apartments.

As wholesale power costs have doubled in the past year resulting in skyrocketing electricity and gas prices, this solar initiative could provide much-needed savings for some of our residents of up to $400 a year. This is a win for our tenants, who would typically not be able to tap into solar savings if they were renting through a private landlord.

Watch the video below to hear what a few residents at our apartments in Eveleigh think of this initiative.

Over 150 countries are participating in World Environment Day, a UN international day engaging governments, businesses, schools, and communities, to raise awareness of the action needed to protect our planet.
