VIPs from three tiers of government officially open Boronia Apartments

Today in Waterloo, City West Housing officially opened Boronia Apartments, its latest and first all-electric 100% affordable housing project.

Located within Green Square’s developing Dank Street south precinct, this 5-storey apartment development will provide rental homes for 74 very low to moderate income households, allowing them to live and work in the heart of Sydney.

The building was unveiled to VIPs and the media by the Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore, NSW Minister for Housing Rose Jackson and Australian Minister for Social Services Tanya Plibersek.

Families, older single women and lower income workers in care professions such as aged and disability care, and early education will soon be moving into to their new rental homes later this month.

The success of this collaboration reflects City West Housing’s unique ability to partner with government at all levels and the public sector to deliver on a shared vision.

Reflecting on the project CEO Leonie King stated: “Boronia Apartments delivers on our purpose which is to build stronger communities and improve people’s lives by providing affordable housing. This wouldn’t have been possible without the determination and support of our partners.”

This essential community infrastructure could not have happened without the collaborative funding model. This included affordable housing developer contributions from the City of Sydney, a capital grant from the NSW Government under the Community Housing Innovation Fund, and assistance through the Australian Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFFF), as well as equity and debt through Housing Australia’s bond aggregator.
