Build Your Neighbourhood

Since 2018, Build Your Neighbourhood (BYN) has supported resident-led projects that bring people together, promote a sense of belonging, and enhance their quality of life.

The main goal of this program is to empower residents to lead positive change, because communities thrive when residents feel connected and take pride in their neighbourhood.

Through our support and funding of grassroots initiatives, BYN creates opportunities for residents to share ideas, build relationships, and contribute to inclusive, safe, and vibrant communities.

Past projects have covered:

  • Skills development workshops
  • Creative arts and cultural activities
  • Community gardening
  • Fitness and health sessions
  • Recreational events
  • Wellbeing and social connection programs

Build Your Neighbourhood is back!

Build Your Neighbourhood (BYN) has been running since 2018. It gives funds to City West Housing (CWH) residents to run projects which strengthen neighbourhoods and communities.

CWH residents have told us they would like to have projects which:

  • Allow CWH’s older residents to feel connected to the wider community
  • Help CWH’s younger tenants learn new skills and have fun
  • Encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural expression.

Below are the successful projects funded this 2022-2023 financial year.

What is Build Your Neighbourhood (BYN)?

BYN is a program for City West Housing residents to submit ideas for projects to make your neighbourhood and community better. Successful projects get funding to make those ideas a reality.

It’s about building happy and thriving communities.

BYN is run by CWH residents as we believe that you know what’s best for your community and this is a way of getting your say in the types of programs that CWH runs.

The purpose of BYN is to help residents:

  • connect with each other
  • feel engaged
  • get involved in your communities and buildings.

The program is designed to promote your health, happiness and wellbeing.

BYN aims to foster inclusive and accessible communities where residents are proud to live, feel safe and empowered – and where residents have a genuine say in the way we do things.

Looking for great projects

We believe getting to know your neighbours can be done through enriching your body, mind and soul. You should also think about ways that we can keep connected and thrive.
