Every day, the staff at City West Housing hear uplifting stories of residents looking out for each other and doing projects that bring the community together.

The annual Community Impact Awards is an initiative to celebrate the City West Housing residents who are making a significant impact on the people around them, their building or the broader community.

The winner of each award received a $1250 gift card.

Winners of the 2025 Community Impact Awards

Community Hero Award (Winner) – Barry P

Recognised for always being very helpful to his neighbours. For example by cooking meals especially for those who don’t have much to eat, giving lifts to whomever needs it, particularly frail/older neighbours, and picking up groceries for others who can’t easily get to the shops.

Community Hero Award (Runner up) – Carol B, Susan C, Kim S

Recognised for constantly sweeping and collecting bags of rubbish from the streets surrounding their building to keep the neighborhood clean. By maintaining a safe, and cared-for environment, they inspire others to take pride in where they live. They embody the true spirit of community heroes – they notice what needs to be done and take action for the benefit of all.

Creative Minds Award – Anna H

Recognised for her creativity and compassion in generously volunteering her time, energy, and personal art supplies to lead a healing-focused art class for a community dealing with a tragic loss. Her ability to create a safe, expressive space allowed participants to process grief, foster connection, and begin the journey toward healing.

Leadership Award – Katrina L

Recognised for being an active member of the Tenant’s Voice Group. She attends and actively participates at every meeting, bringing great ideas while also considering what is within City West Housing’s scope. Her feedback is always helpful and constructive and she’s always happy to put her hand up to help us improve what we do.

Outstanding Young Person Award – Courtney W

Recognised for looking out for her neighbours and generously giving her time and compassion to others in the building, especially someone who has a disability and does not have family living nearby. She checks in on him multiple times a week and takes him to the hospital or medical appointments when needed, all while still keeping up with her studies.
