Neighbourly network pilot program
About the pilot program
The Neighbourly Network is a free City West Housing program that supports residents who may feel alone or socially isolated.
You will receive regular, friendly phone calls from a trained volunteer who is also a fellow resident. These calls offer a warm connection, with someone who will listen, check in, and chat about your interests or how you are feeling.
Whether you prefer a weekly chat or an occasional check-in, the program is flexible to suit you. Your volunteer will ring on an agreed day to say hello and you can enjoy a friendly catch-up together.

- Just want a regular, friendly voice to speak to

Frequently Asked Questions
Volunteers are fellow City West Housing residents who have expressed an interest in giving back to their community.
All volunteers go through an application and screening process conducted by City West Housing, and a NSW Police Check before being approved to participate.
All volunteers are required to complete a training workshop and a series of online modules before making any calls.
Training covers topics including communication, confidentiality, wellbeing awareness, and what to do if a participant raises a concern during a call. Volunteers are also supported by our Community Engagement team throughout their time in the program.
The Neighbourly Network is a friendly connection program, and your volunteer is not a counsellor or support worker.
However, if you share something during a call that suggests you may need additional support, your volunteer will inform a City West Housing staff member with your consent, and we will follow up with you.
If at any point you feel uncomfortable with your volunteer for any reason, contact the Community Engagement Officer or ring our general enquiries line.
You can also request a new volunteer, pause or leave the program whenever you choose.
