WINNER – UDIA NSW MERITON AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE
City West Housing management team at the UDIA NSW Meriton Awards for Excellence.
City West Housing is delighted at having been presented with the Excellence in Affordable Development award in the 2015 Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) NSW Awards for Excellence for its latest development, The Platform Apartments in North Eveleigh, Sydney.
The Platform Apartments provide long-term rental accommodation for key workers and low to middle income earners who live or work in the City of Sydney.
In December 2012, City West Housing (CWH) won the UrbanGrowth NSW tender to design and develop affordable housing within the North Eveleigh precinct. As a result, CWH went on to develop The Platform Apartments – a part six-, part seven-storey residential flat building comprising 88 units and basement car parking for 39 cars and 88 bicycles. The innovative studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom configurations, and duplex apartments, address the divergent needs of the community and reflect Sydney’s changing social diversity.
The Platform Apartments are located in close proximity to exisitng transport infrastucture such as Redfern and Macdonaldtown Stations and major bus routes, as well as employment nodes and general services. CWH worked closely with key consultants to deliver the project on time (55 weeks after construction began) and under budget.
The high demand for affordable housing ensured that all 88 apartments were let prior to completion. The project has been embraced by tenants and the local community and have been acknowledge as a success by local and state government.
UDIA Judges commented – The Platform Apartments are an excellent example of how affordable housing should be done with well-designed and excellent internal amentity and good-size apartments with quality finishes throughout.
