City West Housing recently recognised the contributions of resident Kalmain Williams as part of this year’s Community Impact Awards. He was presented with the Leadership Award for his role as a mentor and a strong leader in the local Aboriginal community.
Kalmain is a proud Wiradjuri and Gumbaynggirr descendant who is trying to inspire change, particularly within his local community.
Kalmain demonstrates leadership in his daily life, always with a view to positively impacting the lives of those with whom he comes into contact. He works for Centrelink in a role that allows him to secure improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers all over Sydney.
Volunteering also allows Kalmain to contribute to the best interests of the local Aboriginal community. He is the manager of the local rugby league team, the Redfern All Blacks, and volunteers with Redfern Youth Connect (a drop-in centre), where he helps to mentor young people. He is helping to shape leaders who will one day significantly impact their communities by encouraging them to stay engaged in education and plan for a brighter future.
