Ashton Robinson grew up in Pyrmont, where he and his mother have been City West Housing residents for 15 years.
After returning from his first trip overseas, Ashton, now 20 years old, was presented with the 2023 Outstanding Young Person Award and gift card prize. He received the award for investing his energy and free time to mentor young people from the local community at the Maybanke Community Centre basketball courts.
Ashton has enjoyed playing basketball for many years and is happy to help others who turn up to the courts improve their basketball skills and encourage them to make new friends while having fun playing sport.
Ashton had no idea he was nominated for the award, but was thrilled to hear what his nominator had submitted, which read in part, “Our area really needs young people, especially from social and affordable housing, to set a positive example for the younger kids coming up in our community and neighbourhood. Great work – Ashton is always going the extra mile to help others excel.”
The Community Impact Awards celebrate City West Housing residents who are positively contributing to the people around them.Â
