City West Housing’s Stage 1 Development Application (DA) for our Bangalay Apartments project at 216-220 Wyndham Street, Alexandria is now on exhibition until 12 December 2023. A Stage 1 DA involves seeking concept approval and setting the building envelope to inform the design competition.
With over 2,500 eligible households on our waiting list, this project will provide vital housing for very low, low and moderate income households.
The highlights of this project and DA includes:
- 104 affordable housing apartments
- Commercial uses on ground and level 1
- Site close to public transport (Green Square station and new Waterloo Metro station)
In accordance with City West Housing’s Concept Design Guidelines, Bangalay delivers on our Wellbeing, Belonging, Value and Collaboration goals through:
Wellbeing of our Residents
- All electric building to help lower resident bills
- 1 bedroom dominant apartment mix representative of demand
Belonging in our Communities
- Contribute an equivalent of $614k to local community infrastructure
- Provision for community rooms
Value for City West Housing
- Reduce operating costs by using solar PV panels for common areas and residents
- Consider long term sustainability – no natural gas in the development to reduce carbon emissions
Collaboration with Partners
- Intend to utilise our partnership with ‘Go Get’ through the provision of car share parking on site
- Establish framework to consult with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to influence the project’s design

Once the DA is approved, the project will progress to a design competition to select the architect, followed by preparation and submission of a Stage 2 Development Application.
